It was once the cheap alternative to the automobile and the rising fuel price. Later it was love. Paris can not be imagined without the image of young couples on two wheels. Now the city at the Seine has the most innovative e-scooter sharing service in Europe.

CITYSCOOT – FIRST SHARING SERVICE IN PARIS

On June 21st 2016, Cityscoot, the French answer to the worldwide boom of car sharing, quietly captured Paris! The Cityscoot founders gave themselves seven months to conduct a pilot phase using fifty electric scooters. Their goal? To check every detail of the app-based sharing service with a fine toothed comb. They were successful. To great acclaim, Cityscoot was launched in June 2016 with 150 GOVECS electric scooters. Their objective is to increase the fleet to 1,000 scooters by 2017.

This plan has been met with overwhelming support from the Paris city council, which sees e-mobility as a major opportunity to make a significant dent in air pollution levels. Scooters can be rented and parked anywhere around the city center in an area which spans approximately 33sq km. There are no parking restrictions or regulations for scooters – you can park on any public slot. The costs for a ride amount to 28 cents per minute – all-inclusive.

The scooters, produced in the polish city of Wrocław, are equipped with a swappable battery which the service provider – not the driver – changes when the first goes flat … you can’t beat that! The innovative Android and iOS apps render keys, membership cards and central rental terminals obsolete.

Whenever you need a quick lift, the nearest scooter can be located using Google Maps or Apple Maps, and after the obligatory battery check, a display code to unlock the scooter is sent to the user within 10 seconds. Then the silent and easy commuting through the city can begin. When renting a GOVECS e-scooter through Cityscoot, the driver only needs to focus on watching the traffic – not on whether there’s enough fuel or juice left in the battery, or whether they can find a charging station. With a helmet stored under the seat of every GOVECS scooter, even head-protection is taken care of.
